:: The forum's administrative position has been passed on from Clowey to Kiyana. Warriors of the Forest will be going through some maitenance and cleanup over the next few weeks, so if it's in maitenance mode, please be patient and check back in a couple of days- the place will probably be back up and running by then!
:: If you want a biography back for keepsakes, or whatever it is you plan to use it for, please send a PM to me (Kiyana) - I'll get a copy to you and then you can go use it.
:: Almost there! The forum is almost finished up, so prepare to start fresh, kitties! ^_^
:: Welcome, new members!
:: Bored? Start a random thread somewhere and see who responds, or click to check out the Roleplaying Request Board.
:: Admins, remember to update clan stats when accepting bios. Other admins, please don't delete spam without logging the IP. ^.^

What IS this site, anyway? « Thread Started on Dec 30, 2005, 7:12pm »
What is this site, anyway? How is it a 'game'?
Useful for parents
Intro I'm sorry if this disappoints you, but this site is not some newfangled flash Role-Playing Game (RPG). It's purely text-based. If you're looking for flash games to play, Neopets has a host of nice ones.
As you can see if you look over it, all the interaction between players on this site is text and image-based. If I do say so myself, text-based RPGs like this one are very useful for improving your writing and descriptive skills while having fun doing it. I won’t lie to you and say it’s the new fad; it requires patience and work instead of mindless mouse movements, but people here are very friendly and happy to help you if you have trouble, and if you keep at it for a couple of weeks I can guarantee that (1) your writing skills will get better and (2) you’ll meet some nice people with whom you can RP (role-play).
In January 2005, there were over a hundred Warriors RPG sites on the internet, some larger than this one. Unfortunately, some of the administrators of those RPGs weren’t vigilant enough in keeping underage members down and their sites were irretrievably deleted by Proboards (the forum site that hosts this RPG) staff. This event is known to long-time RPers as “The Proboards scare” or, more commonly, “The Warriors Massacre”, depending on whether your site was among the deleted. However, this large-scale forum deletion was not limited to Warriors RPGs; a host of other forums with obviously underage users was also deleted.
Why is this pertinent? The “no users under 13” rule of the Proboards TOS (Terms of Service) is the one that is most often broken by users and although it may sometimes seem unfair I agree with it. I try to enforce this rule as best I can. Granted, there is really no way for me to tell for sure whether a user is underage or not, but to all those underage users planning on joining anyway here is what I think on the subject:
I honestly do not recommend joining if you are underage. First of all, there are very few people under thirteen years of age that can write a decent biography for their character and you absolutely need one of those before you can RP. Secondly, and I mean this in the sincerest form possible, the web is a very dangerous place. There are a lot of bad people out there! There are a billion ways of getting viruses attached to your computer, starting with just visiting a website… did you know that? In the section below, I’ve outlined ways that I’ve tried to protect users of this RPG to make it safer, but because it is on the web it’s still dangerous.
Measures I’ve taken I’ve added several safety catches to this site, in the form of site permissions (the site physically will not allow it) and in the form of rules (things that the breaking of which will get you into serious trouble and possibly deleted or banned).
Site Permissions: (1) A user may choose to make their email address and age “hidden”. That means that only I will see it. I swear, here and now, that I will never, ever give out email addresses to anyone. Ever. I will not retrieve it for a user that can’t log in, either. They can email me and we can use the secret question system. (2) As the main administrator, I am able to keep a security log of the past 1000 actions on the site, which dates back about three to four months. Additionally, I can view and search for IP addresses, just in case I’m suspicious that a user has been hacked and they do not know it yet. (3) There is a profanity filter on this site. It isn’t particularly thorough, but it catches most swearing. I feel that profanity sullies a good webpage and isn’t appropriate for anyone under 25 to use. I do not object to words like “crap” and “hell”, though I can’t imagine a cat saying them, but rather to words you wouldn’t utter in front of your junior high teacher.
Rules (1) I have a rather lengthy form of general rules that you can visit here, but it basically says, behavior wise, that profanity is not allowed, nastiness and rudeness are definitely not allowed, and under no circumstances are you to give our your picture, first and last name (not at all is preferable), real email address, or home town. (2) I have recently made a secret question service for use when a user thinks their account has been hacked. View it here. (3) I have absolutely no tolerance for any kind of advertising on my site. There is an “advertisements” board where people are free to promote their own RPGs, but any other type of site, anywhere else, will get the poster banned and their site posted on the wall of flame (if it’s still okay to view)—I’ve had no problems with adult advertisements so far but if I did I’d simply ban that person’s IP address (which I can get even if they use the shoutbox), and any other personal details they leave behind.
I apologize for the banner ads and occasional popups that come with the page. I currently can’t afford to make it ad-free.
Your Administrator Hi and greetings; I, Oakstar, am your administrator. My first name is Susan, and I live in Washington on the West coast of the USA. I just turned seventeen years old, and I started role-playing when I was fifteen. I’m one of the oldest RPers I know, but I don’t really mind. I started this RPG as a hobby because I liked the series so much, and also because I want to learn HTML enough to use if for my senior project next year. Beyond that, I’m sorry, I can’t tell you much more about myself.
If you have any questions about this website please feel free to email me at wotf_admin@hotmail.com. I do not sell emails, IP addresses or anything else personal about a user and neither does Proboards.

If you want to post in the shoutbox, there are a few simple rules you must follow.
Rules:
: : DO NOT ADVERTISE. We don't care if you have the best intentions, the only place on this site to advertise in is the advertisements board. This rule is the most commonly broken, and it ticks us off.
: : You may use profanity, but keep it at a minimum. Remember who RPs here.
: : Admins are all-powerful. Respect them.
If you disobey these rules admins may do anything from asking you politely to stop to banning you. There is no leniency here; you were warned!
